Who services furnaces and plumbing in Cremona?
Elite Home Services, a local, family-owned heating, cooling and plumbing company that has served Mountain View County for more than 18 years. Cremona is on its service list, along with the rural properties around the village. The team handles furnaces, boilers, water heaters, air conditioning, plumbing and drains, with emergency repair 24/7.
Cremona sits on Highway 22, the Cowboy Trail, in the southwest corner of Mountain View County, where Highway 580 heads east to Carstairs, 33.3 km away. It started in 1906 as a store and post office about a mile and a half east of today's village. Mrs. Jackson and her friend Mrs. Caroline Reid named it after Cremona, Italy, home of the Stradivarius violins, and the village moved to its present site when the railway came through in the 1930s.
Cremona was incorporated as a village in January 1955. It has a school from kindergarten to grade 12 in Chinook's Edge School Division, a library since 1975, a curling rink, a hockey rink and a nature trail on the old CP rail line. Cremona Days fills Canada Day at the community hall, the Show and Shine is the first Saturday in September, and the Dogpound Pro Rodeo runs in July.
It is a village of 437 people in about 200 homes. In the 2021 census, 52.6% of occupied homes were built before 1981, none were built from 2011 to 2021, and about a quarter are movable dwellings. Water comes from village wells through Cremona's own treatment plant, where a provincial Water for Life grant was approved for a manganese and ammonia removal upgrade.
