Torrington is a hamlet in Kneehill County at the junction of Highways 27 and 805, about 30 km east of Olds and 26 km west-northwest of Three Hills. The Canadian Pacific named it, possibly after the market town in Devon, England. It was once a busy place with five grain elevators and an active rail line, became a village in 1964 and returned to hamlet status in 1997.
Torrington is known for its gophers. The World Famous Gopher Hole Museum opened in 1995, and by 2019 it held 47 dioramas with a cast of 71 gophers, but in October 2026 its volunteers closed it until further notice because of problems with its aging buildings. Clem T. GoFur, a 12 foot gopher sculpture, stands in the hamlet, and all 11 of its fire hydrants were painted to look like gophers.
Most homes here are older. In the 2021 census, 72.4% of occupied homes in Torrington were built before 1981, none were built from 2011 to 2021, and 17.2% needed major repairs. Natural gas in the hamlet is ATCO's, while land just outside the hamlet is in the Crossroads Gas Co-op area.
