Who services furnaces and plumbing on farms and acreages in Mountain View County?
Elite Home Services, a local, family-owned heating, cooling and plumbing company that has served Mountain View County for more than 18 years. Rural properties across the county are on its service list, along with Olds, Didsbury, Carstairs, Cremona and Water Valley. The team handles furnaces, boilers, water heaters, shop heaters, plumbing and drains, with emergency repair 24/7.
Mountain View County covers 3,763 square kilometres in the Calgary to Edmonton corridor, and the 2021 census counted 12,981 people in its rural municipality, outside the towns and the village. The county calls it prime agricultural land: it had 1,576 farms in 2021, and its 121,604 cattle and calves were the 14th highest count in the province. Dairy farmers milk around the clock, and at seeding and harvest the heavy equipment is out on the country roads.
The county goes back to December 9, 1912, when the Rural Municipality of Mountain View No. 310 was formed from four improvement districts around Olds and Didsbury. After a wartime merger it became the County of Mountain View No. 17 on January 1, 1961, with Didsbury as its seat, and took its present name on January 21, 1998. The county office is on Highway 2A between Olds and Didsbury.
Rural homes come with their own utilities to think about. Outside the towns, the province's franchise maps show at least four rural gas co-ops, and the county has no community-based wastewater systems, so homes rely on septic, while private well owners maintain their own wells. In the 2021 census, 89.4% of rural homes were single-detached houses.
